December 28th, 2018 was when Nike showed off their first ever self tying shoes the Adapt BB, the BB stands for Basketball according to Eric Avar, the vice president and creative director at Nike Innovation. Eric Avar also says the shoe is a “natural extension of your body” and wants it in the future to be able to detect your blood pressure and automatically loosen or tighten depending on what it is. The shoe also comes with lights that can be changed by the app. In a survey taken with 50 students aged 14-18 asking if these shoes are practical and if they would ever get them, 15 students say they would and 39 students said they wouldn’t. The shoes also come with a wireless charging pad and the shoes can go 10-14 days on a full charge. The shoes will be waterproof and wearable in moist environments, the Adapt’s have also been put through “hours and hours of testing” according to Jordan Rice, the senior director in Smart Systems Engineering at Nike, The Adapt BB’s come out February 17th for $350.
