The OSAA 5A State Championship cross-country meet kicked off with the first race of all female runners in 5A Division high schools on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon. The race started at 1:45 p.m., with the athletes lined up along the width of the nearby soccer field, preparing to run around three miles over fields, hills, and near ponds. The entire girls’ varsity team of West Albany qualified, but only five of the seven girls could travel to the meet. West Albany was ranked 11 out of 22 schools, with Annie Berry finishing first of her team and 25th overall. This was the last cross-country meet of the season, and the girls were thrilled to make it to state as they were unable to accomplish this last year.
