After a 16-game win streak, the Boy’s Baseball team faced off with Ashland High School for the semi-final game.
Head Coach Marty Johnston says, “I think there is a difference between being nervous and being excited. And I was just excited. Confident in what our guys have been doing and the way that we’ve been playing. So I was just excited and wanted to get at the game.”
Senior Evan Bliss pitched a total of six innings, getting two outs in the 7th. Bliss not only had a great pitching day but hitting as well, contributing greatly to the final score.
“The nerves were going a little bit before the game,” Bliss said. “But other than that, you’re good to go once you get up there and throw that first pitch.”
Senior Camden Johnson, the lead-off pitcher, provided two scoring runs. He also played shortstop throughout the game.
“It was more of just staying calm,” Johnson said. “We’ve been in this position a bunch of times and it’s just routine for us at this point. You want to stay under control, and I feel like we do a really good job at that.”
A pitch from sophomore Drew Rice led to a hit to the right outfield, where Junior Zack Ferguson made a running catch to win the game with a score of five to four, advancing the team to the championship against Thurston High School. They will compete on June 3, at PK Park in Eugene.
