With forecasting coming up, current freshmen are becoming sophomores and new freshmen are preparing to join the WAHS. Each new freshman will be required to take CTE classes to help them discover their interests.. These rotations allow students to get a look at different pathways they can take throughout high school, and help them decide which they would like to continue in. The rotations also give students the chance to introduce themselves to various teachers and what each class could have in store for them.
“It [CTE Pathways] showed me what I can do and definitely got me interested in waiting to go into [the Jewelry [and] Metals [pathway],” said freshman Delta Zeigler. Some students have an opposing opinion, including freshman Gage Penselin.
“I definitely would rather have chosen my classes,” said Penselin.
“If you don’t like CTE it’s fine, because now you know what you don’t like and you can narrow down things you do like,” said freshman Jordan Castaneda.
The CTE rotations here at west give students a taste of the 12 Career Pathways that we offer. To complete these pathways you have to complete each of these pathways. WAHS has diverse options for these pathways, covering everything from Health Education to WoodWorking and Technology. These classes are made to prepare students for their future careers, as well as teach them life skills such as time management, discipline, and much more. An example of one of the classes in the Performing Arts pathway is Percussion Ensemble.
Percussion Ensemble is one of the many performing arts classes offered at WAHS. In this class they cover many types of music, varying both in style and difficulty. Students are anticipated to learn how to play a variety of percussion instruments, and must practice new techniques. It takes a lot of work outside of class time to improve as an overall musician.
“You get to enjoy all the pieces of music that you are playing.” says freshman Brentsen Miner, “You get satisfaction knowing others are hearing your hard work and enjoying it.”
