Dress to Impress is the latest trending game on Roblox, a game creation platform with millions of players. When it was first released in November of 2023, it was just another of the many dress-up games available on Roblox. However, during the summer of 2024, Dress to Impress had a rapid rise in popularity. By the end of June 2024, the concurrent player count was up to 228,975, and the numbers have only continued to rise. The highest player count the game has seen is 410,135 concurrent players on September 28, 2024, and in total, Dress to Impress has had 3.3 Billion visits. Gigi, the creator of Dress to Impress, is only seventeen years old and has already received praise from the internet and the Roblox corporation, winning a Roblox Innovation Award in September because of her game. The game is still receiving constant updates to and teasing future updates on social media. These constant updates keep garnering attention to the game, and it seems now that everyone is playing this game, including our student body at West Albany.
WW: How long have you been playing Dress to Impress?
Cadence McAllister: “I have been playing Dress to Impress for probably three months now. I used to play Fashion Famous…I fell out of Roblox for a little bit, and then I finally got back on and found Dress to Impress.”
Anna Dineen: “Since 2023, I’m an OG. When it started blowing up on TikTok. I played it for the first time with Teah Caffarella and it was fire. I enjoyed it.”
Mari Smith: “I’ve been playing Dress to Impress since it started.”
WW: How did you hear about Dress to Impress?
McAllister: “I was looking for a game on Roblox to play and pass some time. I saw it, it looked very girly and I was like, let me be a girly girl real quick. So I hopped on and I absolutely demolished the crowd. I got first place the first time that I ever played.”
Dineen: “I heard about dress to impress through TikTok.”
Smith: “I found out about DTI (Dress to Impress) on TikTok.”
WW: Why do you choose to play Dress to Impress?
McAllister: “I choose to play Dress to Impress when I have nothing to do, or if I really want some good competition, I’ll go on Dress to Impress. “
Dineen: “I’m addicted. It’s like, really bad, it’s all I do. I Dress to Impress on the daily, and [being able to do it] on my tiny little dopamine device is wonderful. It’s all I do.”
Smith: “It’s really fun and [I like playing it] because I’m so good at fashion.”
WW: Is Dress to Impress your favorite game on Roblox?
McAllister: “Dress to Impress is not my favorite game on Roblox. My favorite game on Roblox is probably Evade.”
Dineen: “It’s my favorite game ever. If I were to put every video game in a room and had to save one, I [would choose] Dress to Impress.”
Smith: “No, my favorite game is Bloxy Bingo.”
WW: How many of your friends play Dress to Impress?
McAllister: “I would say about five that I know of play Dress to Impress.”
Dineen: “Eight of my friends play Dress to Impress.”
Smith: “My whole family plays. I don’t have a lot of friends, but the friends I do have, two of them play. My dad’s favorite thing to do is play Dress to Impress with me.”
WW: What is so addictive about Dress to Impress?
McAllister: “The endless combinations of items that you can wear in the game that match the themes. You can do different combinations of clothing every single time, and it never gets boring.”
Dineen: “I think the dopamine hit of the bright colors and the movement, and also because it’s awesome sauce. I like dressing up in real life, so doing it online is really fun.”
Smith: “It’s so addictive because I’m always winning.”
WW: Do you think that Dress to Impress will stay trending, or will it fall off soon?
McAllister: “I think it will [fall off]. It really depends if the developers come out with more updates, because updates really bring back attention to it. But usually, if things don’t change for a little bit, it gets boring, and I haven’t really seen [many updates] on Dress to Impress, so it might fall off soon.”
Dineen: “It’s definitely going to fall off in popularity. A lot of what the internet does is it hypes up a fashion style, a makeup trend, an influencer, a person, a game, an activity, an aesthetic, a lifestyle, so much, and it just falls off. At the end of the day, nothing’s going to be permanent because the rise and fall of trends become so much more prevalent in this world, and it’s only going to get faster.”
Smith: “It’s definitely gonna fall off. It’s just like a micro trend.”
WW: What is your rank in dress to impress?
McAllister: “Fashion Maven.”
Dineen: “I’m a Runway Queen with 4000 stars.”
Smith: “Runway Queen.”
