WW: What do you think about Trump changing the name of The Pentagon to The Department of War?
Andrew Sturgill: I don’t like the name change because we’re not trying to be the aggressor, and changing the name could provoke war. After World War II, the Pentagon was called the Department of Defense, and it provoked that we, as the U.S., would fight back, rather than be the one causing the war. The new name of the Department of War may be projecting us as being an aggressive state, rather than one that would mean we would defend ourselves and our allies, and we wouldn’t start the war.
WW: How do you think this could affect the US?
Sturgill: I think it could alter another country’s perception of us, and make them look at it as if America is acting a bit aggressively. Could it provoke an enemy of ours less likely to attack? Possibly. Could it make peace deals with other countries less likely to pass because we seem aggressive? Yes, but it’s unlikely to start World War 3.
