Smarter Balanced testing is Oregon’s required standardized testing being taken by juniors of WAHS this year. According to Marcie McArthur from West Albany High School, teachers encourage students to take their time and work their way through the Smarter Balanced test for the importance to the student as well as the school. The Smarter Balanced test is used to make sure that students and children are getting the accurate resources for success. Students are suggested to aim for success on this test because their scores may be seen on their transcript which could make the difference whether or not they are accepted to for example a job title or a college Marcie McArthur explained. The tests are also shown for the school making a positive or negative impact on the school, another idea to do good on the smarter balanced test. Mrs.McArthur explains, “Before COVID, there were some colleges that would ask for Smarter Balanced scores, or perhaps for scholarships when going into college.”
Smarter Balanced tests are shown to be very significant from this information seeing how the Smarter Balanced test could make the difference in whether or not you get into the college or not Mrs.McArthur goes on to say. McArthur explains that it is important for students to give that effort in the Smarter Balanced test not only to make a good impact on the school but on themselves as well. “Smarter Balanced testing goes in your transcript so if you didn’t try very hard, and get a low score, then that might impact your future. So I would suggest everyone put in some sort of effort” McArthur concludes.
