As the year comes to a close, people have the opportunity to reflect on the time they spent. They can think about their favorite moments, the funniest, the strongest, but this time of year is different for the seniors. They get the chance to look back on all their high school years and revisit both good and bad memories.
As seniors who play sports, whether they played all four seasons or only one, they can think about their best and favorite moments being a part of their sport. When they perform well in a game, when they celebrate with their teammates, there are many things to think about at the end of their high school career.
Seniors Meritt Forney and Alan Rodriguez reflect on their sports careers as they come to a close.
WW: How long have you been playing your sport?
Forney: All four years of high school, I also played T-ball.
Rodriguez: I’ve been playing since I was 5 years old. I started off playing at AYSO, and then I moved on to playing club.
WW: What was your favorite season you played during high school?
Forney: Last year was fun, but I think this year, just because of the friendship I made and just who I’m close with.
Rodriguez: My favorite season, for sure, was my sophomore season, because that’s the year we made it to the state finals.
WW: What is one of your favorite memories?
Forney: This season, we were at Bend, it was a non-league game, and we were down by a lot, like a lot, but we were trolling the team a lot
Rodriguez: My favorite memory would probably be my sophomore season, when we played in the Central finals against Summit.
WW: What made that time so special?
Forney: Probably friendship, I genuinely made some good friendships while playing softball
Rodriguez: Just playing in the snow and to make it to our first-ever state final, it was really special because it wasn’t just about us, it was about our coach.
WW: When was a time you felt powerful or strong in a game/match?
Forney: I don’t know
Rodriguez: I think every game, especially games in my senior year. I felt like I had more responsibility
WW: If one of your best highlights went viral, which would it be?
Forney: Probably when I hit my home run
Rodriguez: My free kick against Willamette, the first game of the season, my senior year, was 25 yards out. Curled it all the way to the bottom corner. The keeper stood no chance.
