Everyone has a place that they love, where they have made so many memories and experiences. Maybe they made a friend there, maybe they had a life-changing experience there. Every hangout spot has its own feel and vibe; the skatepark, Heritage Mall, Dari Mart, every single place probably holds some value in someone’s heart.
“With parks, you’re able to do something while you hang out and talk, play on the swings, or make flower crowns, weave grass, and then at their house, we can just hang out, watch TV, and talk,” freshman Kaspen Aldama said. “Usually, [my friends and I] hang out at the park,” said freshman Kassandra Arnott. “It’s within walking distance [of] school, and we [like to] just mess around and talk. There’s also this barbecue place next to my house, which my friends usually go to if I have them over. It’s really cool. The people are really nice, and I’ve been going there for eight years.”
Hangout spots have their unique vibes and most individuals would say that they have had their best experiences at these places, especially for teenagers.
“Usually when I’m hanging out with my friends, it’s at one of our houses, a movie theater, or maybe going out to a restaurant,” freshman Allie Schlehuser said. “It’s easiest to hang out with my friends there because sometimes when we’re at school, we [might not] have classes together, but when it’s the weekends, we can just hang out, have fun, and not have to worry about school.”
The places where teens like to hang out sometimes aren’t said to be the best, especially with outside people or things that can make a negative experience with these places.
“I like the vibe [at the park] most of the time, but sometimes it isn’t very good, [there] could be intoxicated people or little children coming up and [saying], ‘I want to play mermaids with you!’ And it’s kind of distracting and can be negative in [a] way when I just want to hang out with my friends.” said freshman Kaspen Aldama.
Every hangout spot has its own feel, and everyone who goes to these places has different, unique experiences. Some good, some bad, but all in all, it shapes people into who they are today.
