WW: What is your favorite thing about OHSET?
Gray: I’ve been on the OHSET team for three years and I like getting to be involved with a sport that normally is super individual, and then we get to come together as a team and learn from each other.
WW: What is the most challenging thing about the equestrian team?
Gray: I would say having to work with an animal as your sport is really hard because in most sports it’s just how hard you work. You could be one of the hardest working people on the team, but if your animal’s having a bad day, you’re having a bad day [too].
WW: What was your favorite memory during your time on the OHSET team?
Gray: I would say probably the late nights where we’re cleaning the barn and we’re blasting music because everything’s done for the day. We’re just kind of hanging out with each other and practicing or memorizing stuff we have to do for events the next day.
WW: Is it something you would do for a living? Why?
Gray: It’s not something I would do for a living. I do want to do it throughout the rest of my life, but I think having it become my profession would get stressful and less fun.
WW: What does this sport mean to you?
Gray: It means a lot because I’ve always had horses my whole life … getting to actually compete at a high school level and have the chance to make varsity and get a letter with something that I didn’t think I could get a letter for is really cool.
WW: Would you recommend this sport to someone and why?
Gray: I would recommend it to someone but only if they’re willing to put it in the world … it’s definitely a big undertaking to start. A lot of sports are easy to like even if you haven’t had [any] experience.
