WW: What responsibilities do you have as captain?
Bethany Doggett: “A lot of it is being an experienced person who’s there to answer questions and help people who may feel lost or don’t know what to do. We’ll do things like lead warm-ups, make sure everyone is on track and on time, [inform people of] what events are going on, and [let them know] where they need to be.”
WW: What do you do when a teammate is not performing well?
Doggett: “I help if I know what they need. Other than that, I would ask the coach if it’s something I’m not sure about.”
WW: How are you leading your team while injured?
Doggett: “A couple of days before the first meet, my foot started hurting, and I had to take some time off because it was a bone bruise. I was trying to show up to practice, to show I’m still part of the team, which is hard because I’m trying to fit in the training that I can. And I’m Trying to be there for [the team]…that means going to all the meets and cheering as best I can, [while] watching from the sideline.“
