With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, most people are looking for their Valentine’s date by preparing flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, and chocolates. But what about people who don’t have dates? 

     Personal displays of affection, also known as PDA, on Valentine’s day has come to a point where couples are just overdoing it. Bringing flowers and balloons publicly is too much for one holiday. As a spectator in the hallway at high school, it’s annoying to see large displays of affection because it makes people without dates feel annoyed or disgusted. The stereotype that there’s a need for a date on Valentine’s day makes people without a significant other uncomfortable when PDA is excessive. 

    PDA like making out, long hugs, cuddling, or large distracting gifts can cause a disruption in student traffic and creates an awkward environment. People with a partner can do whatever they want in private, but in public remember that everyone doesn’t need to know that. PDA or extreme gifts should be kept at home, not in school or any public places.  

     As a student, the short hugs, pecks or on the cheek lips are the max for public places but extreme make out sessions, long hugs, cuddling and the aggressive gifts makes everyone feel uncomfortable and alienates the single people.

     No one wants to see long make out sessions in the halls or people dripping over their significant other in the halls. This is a school zone, no one should be doing that in the school halls. 

     As a person in a high school hallway, I think the amount of money spent on Valentine’s gifts is crazy. People can spend up to 100 dollars just on Valentine’s Gifts every year, and it’s a waste of money because one can never even know if you’re gonna be with their significant other forever. The personalized gifts are really expensive. Getting a personalized gift for someone can be really expensive but it’s a really sweet thing as long as it’s not a huge gift and if it is, keep it at home. 

    There are many people who get proposed or married on valentines day because it is a day people can remember and it’s the day of love so they think it’s a good day to get married. FUN FACT: valentine’s day is the most popular day to get married or proposed
