It was announced on September 28, 2025, during the Saturday Night Football broadcast that Latin artist Bad Bunny will be the headliner for the 2026 SuperBowl halftime show. With mixed reactions, Bad Bunny released a teaser trailer in partnership with Apple Music, with the message, “Get ready to dance.” As anticipation builds, students at West Albany High School are reacting to what the performance represents culturally and musically.
“I feel like he has such a wide range of music that you can listen to him no matter your mood,” senior Izabel Vidrio said. For senior Mia Peña, she likes his music because it ties into older Latin music. “His rhythm, especially his latest album that he came out with, was really good, inspiring like old Latin culture and Latin music.”
Based on Bad Bunny’s past performances and public statements, Peña expects the halftime show to surround Puerto Rican culture. She said Bad Bunny has consistently expressed pride in his heritage. “I think it’s going to be very colorful, it’s going to show a lot of Puerto Rico’s culture, since he’s been very open and vocal about being very proud and wanting to give Puerto Rico more of a voice,” Peña said.
Regarding the backlash to the Latin performer being the headliner, Vidrio said, “We have become so cruel, especially in the past year, we are moving backwards from everything we fought for and I think it’s so good to remind people that everyone is equal and your language or skin color does not define who you are and what you are capable of doing.” Junior Braydon Armengolt also agreed that the decision brings a sense of inclusivity in entertainment. “Because anyone can, anybody can perform, regardless of their race, religion,” Armengolt said.
