In the Minds of Cross Country Runners

Q&A: What goes through your mind while you are running a cross country race?

Sophomore Carson Hyde:

So, what goes through my mind is I think about the end of the race and what I need to do to get to the end of the race and what I either need to start thinking about pushing a little more, or if I feel that I’m running out of energy, pulling back and just kind of going with the flow.

Freshman Arianna Martinez:

When I’m running a cross country race, I don’t really think. Honestly, I kind of just stare at people’s feet in front of me. I’m so stressed that I can’t think. I’m just kind of hyper focused on speed, pretty much just watching the people in front of me.

Sophomore Megumi Ludlow

Usually I think about what my pace is, and what position I’m in, and whether or not I should start speeding up. I also have to make sure that I hold myself back so I don’t over run.
