Beckam Schapper, Blake Silvers and Jacey Ly what all do they have in
common? Sports! More specifically sports bags and how all of them have
different essentials that make their sports bags unique.
Beckam:
Freshman Beckam Schapper shared the necessities he carried in his wrestling bag. Shoes and headgear are among them, a change from middle school competition, which doesn’t require headgear.
“For a match, you’re going to need shoes; in high school, you have to have head-gear now,” said Schapper. “If you have braces, which I do, you are going to need a mouth guard, and you need your singlet.” Having a mouthguard protects braces from most of the impact taken during a match.
Having shoes is definitely a must for most sports. “My shoes [are the most important] since you need them all the time,” said Schapper. “I don’t have any items in there for recovery, but I do have an ankle brace since I injured my ankle a while ago, I still need the extra support for my ankle,” said Schapper.
Blake:
“Some things that must be in my bag for a game are my first base glove and my baseball glove. My most important item [in my bag] would probably be my infield baseball glove,” said Freshman Blake Silvers. Athletes use different strategies for healing quickly. Silvers said, “I use a Marc Pro,” which stimulates your muscles to speed recovery.
Jacey:
Here are some items that are in freshman Jacey Ly’s swimming bag that make it unique. “First, you need a towel to dry [off] and then you need goggles and maybe a spare, just in case your first ones decide to break. Personally, I bring two caps instead of just one because it makes sure my goggles don’t fall off when I dive off the deck, and you also need a [swim]suit you can warm up in at meets. You need a tech suit that makes you go faster,”
“My most important item in my bag is for sure my tech suit since it ensures I go fast in my races so that I can qualify for more meets. I [also] need to make sure it is in my bag since it costs $600,” Ly shared her post-meet recovery usually. “I just bring tennis balls to roll out my back before [the meet], or I just get a massage gun,”
Ultimately, it’s not what’s in the bag that makes the athlete; it’s the hard work and dedication they put in every day, doing what most people can’t, and that’s playing the sport they love and striving for greatness every day.
