Junior Violet Stenger’s ‘Urban Legends’ art stands out

Walking around the library at West Albany during an art show is something special. Seeing everyone’s point of view and different art styles is eye-opening. Junior Violet Stenger’s paintings centered around urban legends catch the viewer’s eye. Stenger took a topic she was truly passionate about and aimed to educate people on these urban legends.

“I’ve always liked drawing and making up my own mythical creatures, I have always really liked creepy stuff so I kinda already knew what my topic was gonna be about,” Stenger said.

Stenger’s mom helped her research urban legends for the project. Stenger practiced by outlining everything on paper with silver paint just to make sure she liked how it would turn out before she started the real deal.

“The one on the Sirens ended up being my favorite. I liked how the storm and sky turned out,” Stenger said. “I also liked that I was able to draw a bunch of different-looking sirens.”

Although Stenger would have liked more time and would’ve done another, she was pretty happy with how everything turned out.

“I’ve been doing art since I could hold a pencil and I would make little storybooks,” Stenger said. “A big takeaway from this was learning not to get so stressed if something didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to.”
