“It can mean a bunch of rain or a lot of something at once. So the idea of Blame Torrent is that it’s sort of an imagery of being in the rain [and how] society blames teenagers a lot of times for their problems,” said senior Caleb Hensrude.
New uprising band “Blame Torrent” consisting of five West Albany students, freshman Connor Clark as the drummer, senior Legend McMullen as the lead singer, junior Wilbur Luckman, who plays the bass, Lucy Hensrude as the lead guitarist, and Caleb Hensrude, who is also a guitarist.
Mostly doing Punk Rock covers, “Blame Torrent” is trying to compose their own songs, “I write whatever I’m feeling…usually, I start out with a simple verse, or sometimes with a chorus, and build off that…It’s a process trying to figure out how to place words and still make sense to the general theme of the song,” said McMullen.
As practices are held once a week, typically on Saturdays in Caleb Hensrude’s garage, there is a lot to do, since they can only practice for so long. “We talk for a bit about what we want to do, and then we play whatever covers we’re [working on],” said Luckman. Balancing school life and the band can be very hard at times, with performances during test weeks or practices during extracurricular activities. “It can be very difficult, especially because our last gig was right in the middle of finals week, [as well as] Wilbur, Lucy, and Connor are all in the school play…Theatre schedules are intense. That makes it so we can only have [practice] every week or so,” said McMullen.
With the band performing their first gig at Deluxe Brewery, “Blame Torrent” has decided that the band is something they all want to participate in, and that they want to put themselves out there more. “We´re kind of just messing around right now. Still, Madison Square Garden [is somewhere we´d like to perform],” said Lucy.
Not knowing if they´re going to make it big, they participate in the band anyway, showing that popularity isn´t what they value; it’s the memories, friendship, and just wanting to play in a garage. McMullen said, “Our main goal right now is trying to perform as much as we can.”
